About GLP-1s
GLP-1 agonists are a class of prescription medications, mimicking the natural hormone GLP-1, used primarily for managing Type 2 diabetes and obesity by controlling blood sugar and promoting weight loss through appetite reduction, increased fullness, and delayed stomach emptying, with benefits also seen in reducing cardiovascular and kidney risks for some patients. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation; rarer but serious risks may include pancreatitis and gallbladder issues. They are administered by injection or oral tablet.
All medications require a medical evaluation and are prescribed only when appropriate.
